Mark Love, that is! And for me too! I’m speaking of the Otsego Artisan Market this past Saturday, June 22nd, of course. It was a great day all around, especially after the heat wave we have been having lately. I have to say I was skeptical about the event, when Mark asked me if I would like to share a table with him. I have been avoiding events, the last couple of years, where I have either not done well or lost money by having to stay at motels. But I decided it was time for at least one new event. So, I accepted the invitation.
As it turned out, it was one of the best events I have attended in a long time. The weather was not too hot, with a nice breeze. And we were situated under a very nice pavilion next to a beautiful river. Mark Love was a great table companion and if you don’t know him, yes, that is his real last name. He is witty and funny and an all around very nice guy and if you have not read his books, you really should. I have read his Jamie Richmond series and am working on reading his Jefferson Chene series. His books are mysteries and very hard to put down once you start reading them. He is an excellent author. I am looking forward to the event next year!
The whole venue/event was well done. It’s the only event I have been to where there were people to help you unload and load your products as well as bringing around ice cold water to each table at no cost. There were a variety of vendors, such as crafts, baked goods, plants, teas, wood works, and lots of good music playing all day. The crowd was steady throughout. Not too many people stopping by the table all at once. When that happens, it is hard to relate to each person as everyone is vying for attention.
The event lasted for six hours and I sold thirty-two books and Mark sold even more! People were buying a lot of series books and some buying the whole series from both of us. I sold out of my cookbook, ‘Cooking from the Heart.’ And almost sold out of ‘Meeting Henry’ as I had only one of those books left. Several people bought ‘My Heart for Jill’ and ‘Gerard’s Descent’ and plan to buy the next book in the series, ‘Indiscretion’ as soon as it comes out. Of course, you never really know if they will or not, but it is good to hear.
All in all, I had a wonderful time meeting the public and visiting with Mark. I can hardly wait for next year. I think we both will have some new books to add to our tables. Both of us have more events this year and those dates can be found on our websites along with all of our books. MarianneWieland.com and motownmysteries.com.
